That French paradox is the wine.. By having this kind of resveratrol added wine will decrease the cardiac diseases and also tell me how much dosage should have daily..

Resveratrol is found in the skin of red grapes and is a constituent of red wine, but apparently not in sufficient amounts to explain the French paradox. Experiments have shown that resveratrol treatment extended the life of fruit flies, nematode worms and short living fish but it did not increase the life span of mice. Most of these results have yet to be replicated in humans. In the only positive human trial, extremely high doses (3–5 g) of resveratrol in a proprietary formulation have been necessary to significantly lower blood sugar.

Another health benefit has been attributed to red wine - fighting off the common cold.

According to scientists in Spain, drinking wine, especially red, stops people from developing colds.

Something in wine seems to have a protective effect because the same was not seen with beer and spirits.

The evidence comes from a year long study of 4,000 volunteers.
Have tried this for some time now. When symptons first appear, have taken about a teaspoon of Three Thieves red wine and never got the cold. Many of my friends have had similar results. If you catch the cold, then it will have to run its course. OH! Where did the term "Catch a cold" come from? Thanks for your answers!

I've heard that red wine can help prevent colds and heart disease, but I think you would have to drink a glass every day

I got Now's Natural Resveratrol (http://www.nowfoods.com/?action=itemdetail&item_id=92129), and every time I take a capsule, it tastes distictly like gasoline. Even to the point where I am now a little worried that maybe it's tainted. Is this normal, or just in my case?

What would you recommend as a course of action?

Any info appreciated

I did ask my mate who drinks gasoline about it, but he never tasted "resveratrol" he said.

I'm 21 year old, having higher levels of estrogen, and my questions is if it would be SAFE for a 20 year old guy to take nettle root, chrysin -anti-aromatase, resveratrol-anti aromatase, or maca root in order to boost testosterone levels and prevent any fat buildup and decrease gynecomastia.

It's very hard for me to bulid muscle, and feel energetic. However, when I take resveratrol and maca, I can feel my waist disappering, and gynecomastia going down. When I stop, it goes back up again.

Are there any long-term side effects if I take those supplements.

What would YOU recommend?

I would recommend you working this out with your doctor. It's not about slapping on a bandaid and hoping it will work. It's about figuring out what's going on with your body and fixing it. I wouldn't just start taking random herbs that I hope would do something, totally unaware of the side effect.

What things are promotional for a developing diabetic?

I'm pretty sure i'm beginning to develop type 1 , as I get stomach aches with ingestion of candy, or soda, and sometimes potatoes and starches.
I have been taking a daily multi-vitamin, and an anti-oxident complex, containing grapefruit seed extract-selenium-Resveratrol-and other common anti-oxidents.My daily vitamin literally gives me all the minerals/vitamins that the average person requires.
Tell me if the anti-oxidents will help my body cleanse itself with the spare energy preserved, and what other things I can do without medical aid to preserve what use of my pancreas I still contain?

Yes -- 3 liters is a bit exorbitant (even if the challenge is welcoming to many of us!) But neither here nor there -- reveratrol is fantastic in many ways...like doubling endurance, fighting obesity and prolonging life.

The increase of high-fat diets has led to the rising number of people diagnosed with metabolic disorder and diabetes. Resveratrol has been shown to offset the negative health effects of high-fat diets by increasing the number of mitochondria in the muscle cells.

Extra mitochondria within cells help burn more calories and assist in burning fat. Furthermore, resveratrol helps build muscle fibers like those of trained athletes so more glucose calories are metabolized with less insulin - reversing insulin resistance from the "outside-in".

Picture this and try not to laugh (or call the ASPCA): an average lab mouse can pound the treadmill for a kilometer before it collapses. Lab mice that receive high doses of resveratrol last twice as long as the average lab mouse that collapsed after a kilometer. The resveratrol mice were also found to have energy-charged muscles and a lower heart rate, much like trained athletes.

Is grape juice as good as red wine for preventing cancer?

The antioxidants in red wine come from the grape skins. Do they include the skins when they make grape juice? If so is grape juice as full of antioxidants as red wine?

Resveratrol is one of the prime components in grape skin which has been associated with wine's health benefits. Yes, fresh grape skins include this compound as well.

However, wine probably has several health benefits in addition to cancer prevention, particularly for the circulatory system, protecting from atherosclerosis and resulting vascular disease (stroke, myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular disease, etc.). While resveratrol plays some role in some of these there are probably other parts of wine that contribute, including alcohol. So plain grape juice may have some of the beneficial components but not all of them.

Remember though, if you do drink, do so in moderation. The studies have only shown that moderate drinking (the definition of which varies from study to study and country to country) is potentially beneficial. Too much alcohol can have many harmful effects including alcoholism, liver disease, throat and stomach cancers, etc.

are wine makers removing resveratol from wine to make it smoother or less tannic?

No! At least, not intentionally.

While some winemaking decisions would lower the level of resveratrol in the wine (shorter skin contact, different varieties), no winemaker who I've ever spoken to (I'm in the industry) has ever tried to actively remove resveratrol from the wine.

There are many better, more effective ways to reduce the tannins in wine that by trying to get resveratrol out of it. Likewise, 'smoothness' is about so much more than tannin levels (the ripeness of the tannin is much more important, as is the phenolic maturity of the grape at harvest.)

So drink and enjoy the French Paradox!

Avoid using Toners

Toners are generally alcohol-based and therefore end up drying and irritating the skin. Thus it is not recommended for sensitive skin types.

Wear Protective Clothing

While doing laundry or other cleaning activities that require you to be in contact with chemicals, always make sure that you wear protective gloves.

Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure

The UV rays of the sun tend to penetrate the skin surface and cause damage. Since the tolerance level of sensitive skin is extremely low, it is all the more susceptible to damage. Therefore, avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen when you venture out in the sun.

Avoid Exposure to Pollution & Dust

Dust and pollution can wreck havoc on the skin. In the case of sensitive skin it becomes all the more dangerous. Therefore, make sure you wear protective clothing and cover yourself well when you venture out.

Look for Labels

If the products are not labeled as specifically being for ''sensitive skin t' then choose products that are labeled 'hypoallergenic,' 'non-comedogenic,' and so on. They are the ones that don't cause any allergies nor serve to close the skin pores.

Use Soap-free Cleansers

Make sure your cleanser is not soap-based and does not contain any alcohol. This is because soaps and alcohols are harsh ingredients that serve to dry the skin and damage it. Sensitive skin may react very adversely to soaps and alcohols.

Don't Over-Exfoliate

Exfoliation is a key process to scrape off the dead skin cells from the surface and reveal new healthy ones from beneath. However, excessive and harsh exfoliation can do more harm than good. They can cause inflammation and even lead to skin redness.

Avoid Using too much Make-Up

Make-up and cosmetics contain harsh chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin. Therefore, go with minimum make-up and make sure you don't keep it for too long.

It is important to understand that sensitive skin is very different from normal skin. Therefore requires specialized care and attention. You need to be careful with your skin and use products that address its specific concerns.

After a bit research on resveratrol form various websites, I found http://www.terraternal.com but I have not heard of this place before. Has anyone had any experience with this company? The price seems okay but I want to make sure before purchasing. thanks

best buy of resveratrol product?

I recently bought some "Pilgrims Promise " Red Wine Extract Plus. It had the word RESVERATROL top on the lable. Thats why I bought it. Later I read the ingredients disclosure on back an saw that Resveratrol was last on the list. That means that it is the smallest amount of all the ingredients. It does not tell what the actual amount is. I bought it thinking it was mostly resveratrol. I believe it is deceptive advertising and the product is probably benign and trading on the Resveratrol name. The Plus part of the formula is Grape Seed Extract and vitamin C. I feel I got ripped off. the product was purchased at CVS and is $9.95 for 60 capsules. The dose is described as 200 mg of red wine complex. Any thoughts on this/ or suggestions on a good source of resveratrol? and if you have benifited from taking the supplement "RESVERATROL".

Well, you're definitely right that it sounds like they were trying to be deceptive... I would have assumed that means it's got a lot of Resveratrol in it instead of just a trace amount if it said it on the front of the bottle, but that's why it's also a good reason to read the supplement facts to make sure the company isn't trying to use marketing to sell their product. Red Wine actually has very little Resveratrol, so you likely got less than 1 mg from that product.

Ultimately, Resveratrol is Resveratrol no matter which company sells it as long as that company is legit and has good quality. It is a fantastic antioxidant that is also good for cardiovascular health, but that's about it.
You can get it from any health food store (GNC, Whole Foods, etc) and many other places, but I would be careful about online ads for it (and the "free trials" are hardly ever free since they have to get you to pay for it somehow). Unfortunately, Resveratrol is one of a few high powered antioxidants that are fads right now and when there is a fad, there are always people and companies that take advantage of that popularity and sell their own piece of it. The unfortunate part is that too many of those people/companies make baseless claims in order to sell their product faster and for higher prices.

It's best to get a product like this from a company that you know and/or trust. If you'd like, I can also point out a few companies out there if you can't find any in your local area. Good luck and I hope I helped!

anti-aging serums vs. moisturizers?

I am looking for an anti-aging or anti-wrinkle night cream, preferably with retinol (vitamin A). I've tried two... and they have both made my face break out (Roc Deep Wrinkle and Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle). I've read that serums are better for oily skin... is this true? Anyone have any experience or recommendations about this?
