Is grape juice as good as red wine for preventing cancer?
The antioxidants in red wine come from the grape skins. Do they include the skins when they make grape juice? If so is grape juice as full of antioxidants as red wine?
Resveratrol is one of the prime components in grape skin which has been associated with wine's health benefits. Yes, fresh grape skins include this compound as well.
However, wine probably has several health benefits in addition to cancer prevention, particularly for the circulatory system, protecting from atherosclerosis and resulting vascular disease (stroke, myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular disease, etc.). While resveratrol plays some role in some of these there are probably other parts of wine that contribute, including alcohol. So plain grape juice may have some of the beneficial components but not all of them.
Remember though, if you do drink, do so in moderation. The studies have only shown that moderate drinking (the definition of which varies from study to study and country to country) is potentially beneficial. Too much alcohol can have many harmful effects including alcoholism, liver disease, throat and stomach cancers, etc.
