Can anyone out there help with a ritalin vs adderall concern for adult ADD?

I was prescribed Strattera in 07 for adult ADD and after several months I wasn't much better. I then started ritalin 5 mg twice daily along with 40 mg of strattera, i'm still taking this but I have noticed more irritability and more loud outburst and aggravation. Especially with family, kids, and boyfriend. I was wondering if maybe the combination or the ritalin needed to be changed. I have read that ritalin is more prone to cause irritability and mood swings more so than adderall. I know both drugs have the side effects, and the only one that really bothers me is the irritability. Any responses are appreciated.

I was on Ritalin for 10 years (started when I was 25) and have been on Adderall for 2 years. Somewhere in there when I switched, I tried Strattera for almost a year with the stimulant medications.

I liked Ritalin for the assistance with attention control and impulsiveness. It was also good for lifting my mood as it is sometimes given to the elderly for that reason. I didn't like how inconsistent the drug was in length of time and reliability.

Adderall contains Dexedrine and that makes me a little grumpy (opposite of lifting my mood) but it is a more consistent pill and does its job.

Everyone's biochemistry is different but know that the side effects are important to consider. Straterra seemed to help with memory (which means it helped with attention) but it had some undesirable side effects which included my insurance raising the co-pay (because they don't like the med).
