2 month old Kit(ferret)*biting*?
i need some help please? I just went out and bought a Ferret yesterday, Its so cute but i have a 6month old baby and I have a problem with the Ferret biting me, i think its only playing because it chases me and nibbles on my toes and bites my fingers when i pick him up .(problem is that it is a real bad bite) but i dont want him to bite anymore because i will have to get rid of him if he bites my son.. please help
oh and i did research it... the lady in the store said ferrets arent mean lol so she lied to me
Your ferret is still a baby and needs to be taught not to bite.
When your ferret bites you, firmly say no and give him something else to bite, like a toy he can chew on. Praise him when he plays with his toys and isn't biting you. You can purchase bitter apple spray and spray it on your hands. It has an unpleasant taste and is supposed to stop him from biting.
Please, please, please keep in mind that a pet is a lifetime commitment. You JUST got him yesterday and it's your responsibility, as a pet owner, to train him and teach him good behavior. Don't give up on him. Ferrets are intelligent. It'll just take time and patience. Your ferret is very much like a baby. If your baby started biting, would you give him up? No. You'd teach him not to.
I would recommend you limit the contact your son has with the ferret until your ferret learns not to bite. It'll just take patience and consistency. You purchased your ferret, and now it's your responsibility to provide the love, care, attention, and training he needs.
