How Much Will a DUI from My Teenage Years Ruin My Life? Please Help!?

Hi. I was convicted of DUI at age 19.I quit drinking the night of my arrest. I am now 21 years old. I have been in therapy for depression due to my DUI and other things. My therapist says that it has been two years now and it's time for me to stop thinking about it.

How do I get over it? I fear that my life is over. I am applying to law school next year. I am so worried that I won't be admitted because of my DUI.

Can I ever have a good job or will my DUI always haunt me? Also, do employers factor in the age? Perhaps they will realize I was a teenager and young and stupid?

I have changed my life. I now have a 3.8 GPA and volunteer alot....Face Aids Organization and a Domestic Violence Shelter.

Please advise me. How do I get over my DUI?

As problem drinker for many years, I think your decision to stop drinking is more important positive for your life than any legal issues your 2006 DUI citation will ever on the negative side. In the past 15 to 20 years the organizations like MADD have pressed for no forgiveness of any past DUI citations. It was not just; but, I drank for so long and did not get a DUI arrest. I graduated from a national law school and am certain that your misdemeanor DUI will not work against your chances for admission. Addendum: with your record of accomplishments outside the classroom, I would offer to interview if there is any doubt about your fitness for the legal profession secondary to a teenage DUI. But, I think you are overly concerned. It is; however, a lawyer's job to worry!!
